To DIN 6334, a long nut is three times as long as its thread size. An M10 long nut is 30 mm long, M12 is 36 mm and M16 is 48 mm.

Which long nut should I use with a threaded rod?

Match the thread, finish and grade. Use zinc plated long nuts with zinc plated GI threaded rods, hot dip galvanized (HDG) long nuts with HDG rods, and stainless steel long nuts with stainless rods of the same grade. For an 8.8 rod, choose a long nut of matching strength.
