Stainless steel nuts (SS 304, SS 316, SS 202) are used with stainless bolts of the same grade. For steel bolts, match the nut class to the bolt: class 8 nuts for 8.8 bolts, class 10 for 10.9 and class 12 for 12.9. Self finish nuts suit indoor use, zinc plated nuts suit mild conditions, and hot dip galvanized (HDG) nuts are used on outdoor structures.

A nylock nut is the simplest choice. A lock nut tightened against a hex nut, or a serrated flange nut, also works well.
A nut bolt is a bolt with a head plus a nut. A stud bolt has no head and takes a nut on each end. See our studs and threaded rods.
