Button Head Screw FAQs

Can button head screws take high torque?

Less than an Allen cap screw, because the head and socket are smaller. Use them for light to medium loads, and choose an Allen cap screw for heavy joints.

Which Allen key fits a button head screw?

To ISO 7380, M3 takes a 2 mm Allen key, M4 2.5 mm, M5 3 mm, M6 4 mm, M8 5 mm, M10 6 mm and M12 8 mm. This is one size smaller than for an Allen cap screw of the same thread.

Button head screw or Allen CSK screw: which should I use?

A button head screw sits on top of the surface with a low, rounded head. An Allen CSK screw sits flush in a countersunk hole. Choose the CSK screw when nothing should stand above the surface.
